Themes: landscape photography, environmental changes, project courses, portfolio review

The workshop centers around landscape photography. In the practical part, in addition to the large format analog technique Olaf Otto Becker (*1959) takes on and explores the possibilities of digital techniques such as stitching. Based on selected works, he also explains various workflows of project-based work: preparation of the project, on-site work, editing the book, and preparation of the exhibition. Portfolio review in the form of highly in-depth and professional consulting is part of the workshop. The participants’ works will be addressed individually. Trends and possible paths that can already be seen in the participants’ works will be discussed jointly.

Olaf Otto Becker (*1959 in Travemünde) studied communication design in Augsburg with a focus on conception and photography. He then completed an additional course of study in political science and philosophy at Munich’s LMU.

Olaf Otto Becker has frequently exhibited in Europe, the USA, as well as in Asia. His first illustrated book, Under the Nordic Light (Schaden publishers), was nominated for the renowned Rencontres D’Arles Book Award. Becker designs his books himself and is involved in all phases of production. He also makes the prints and frames for his exhibitions in his studio. His Broken Line photo book (Hatje Cantz publishers with a foreword by Gerry Badger) was awarded the 2008 German Photo Book Prize. Also published by Hatje Cantz are the Above Zero, Under the Nordic Light – A Journey through Time and, most recently, Reading the Landscape series.
